Becoming an End-of-Life Doula

I’m Robbin Linn, an End-of-Life Doula (Laurentian University) and Certified Meditation Teacher (McMaster University) based in Brantford, Ontario. I offer compassionate, holistic mind-body support for individuals and families as they navigate through life’s most sacred passage.

When my brother was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer, I had the privilege of caring for him during his final months. During that tender time, I witnessed not only the pain and uncertainty he carried but also the deep love, closeness, and moments of grace that surrounded us. His journey helped me understand the sacredness of life’s final chapter and the comfort that compassionate presence can bring.

I also became aware of the gaps in end-of-life care within our medical system. Families are often asked to navigate this profound transition with too little emotional and practical support. Out of that awareness, and from a desire to accompany others with tenderness and steadiness, I started volunteering at Stedman Community Hospice. This is a very worthy organization operated by many volunteers and paid staff, and I am happy to be a part of their team. I felt that I could be doing more, so I trained as an End-of-Life Doula through Laurentian University to offer presence, guidance, and holistic care to people nearing the end of life.

To me, end-of-life care means honouring each person’s unique way of letting go. My role is to offer support that tends to both body and soul, helping create a space where people and their loved ones can feel held, heard, and cared for. This work continues to teach me how connection can soften fear, bring comfort, and reveal meaning even in life’s most uncertain moments.
